Elementary School Principal
Two Rivers Public Charter School is seeking a dynamic, dedicated, instructional leader to become the principal of a vibrant educational community.

Two Rivers Public Charter School serves a diverse group of learners across three locations in Wards 5 and 6. Staff at Two Rivers create an exciting educational environment in which students and staff become a community of learners on a journey of discovery. Two Rivers uses the EL Education model, which emphasizes interactive, hands-on, project-based learning. The school focuses on the whole child, recognizing the importance of character education and the social-emotional needs of children while helping them achieve academic excellence.

The curriculum at Two Rivers is rigorous, standards-based, and provides opportunities for students to excel in all areas. An integrated arts program and a content-based Spanish program augment the school’s demanding academic program. The Position
Two Rivers is seeking a gifted educator to lead the core of the Two Rivers mission: a stellar instructional program. The Principal will report to the Chief Academic Officer and is responsible for personnel and programs in preschool through fifth grade. The Principal will ensure academic quality, support teachers’ professional development, implement high standards for student behavior, and maintain a strong culture among students, staff, and families. The principal will also champion our network-wide commitment to engaging with and addressing issues of inequity.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Leading Instruction
  • Communicate a clear, consistent, results-oriented vision for school-wide instructional practice
  • Drive ongoing improvement in the quality of instruction through feedback, coaching, and professional development
  • Lead a process of continuous improvement through the systematic collection, analysis, and response to a diverse set of data
  • Monitor curriculum implementation to ensure fidelity to the Two Rivers model while thoughtfully empowering teacher autonomy and creativity
Leading School Culture
  • Develop strong relationships with families and students, creating investment around social-emotional learning, school culture, and the Two Rivers mission, and coach teachers in doing the same
  • Work with staff to communicate regularly with families regarding school policies, events, and student progress
  • Lead all staff and students in establishing a positive, achievement-oriented, and fun school culture
  • Oversee students’ academic and behavioral program, including disciplinary decisions, enforcement of the Student and Family Handbook, and scheduling and class decisions
    Leading a Team
    • Inspire and motivate staff to achieve the Two Rivers mission and goal and to model the Two Rivers core values
    • Foster the development of a high-performing staff through systematic procedures for hiring, goal-setting, supervision, support, evaluation, retention, and dismissal
    • Supervise and support the school’s leadership team in accomplishing the school’s goals
    Leading with Others
  • Collaborate with network-wide teams to implement operations, human resources, and communications policies that support teaching, learning, and the success of the Two Rivers community
  • Nurture our network-wide instructional focus as a member of the network instructional leadership team
  • Engage in constant personal learning, including the need to learn and adapt when faced with challenges and successes
  • Share effective curricular and instructional practices from and with other schools

    • Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and “roll-up-my-sleeves” attitude
    • Expertise in early childhood development and education
    • Demonstrated ability to teach in ways that are interactive, hands-on, project-based, and promote self-discovery and critical thinking
    Educational Background and Work Experience
    • A bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 3.0 from a competitive college or university is highly preferred, a master’s degree is preferred
    • Successful experience leading adults
    • Four years of urban teaching experience with a track record of high student achievement
    • Experience as an AP, Dean or equivalent leadership role highly preferred
    • Experience in a project-based learning school or a school in the EL Education network preferred but not required
