Job Description

Academies of Math and Science – 2016 Arizona Charter School of the Year

For Today’s Scholars – Tomorrow’s Global Visionaries

Are you dedicated to influencing positive changes in at-risk communities by preparing students for college and a successful life and career? As part of the AMS family, your role is to incorporate foreign languages into the diverse curriculum for our K-8th grade students. Our passion is serving low-income neighborhoods and providing a STEM-focused education in conjunction with music, foreign language, and sports programs.

**We are seeking a teacher that speaks either Mandarin OR Russian for the 2018-2019 school year.**

As we grow by roughly 30% each year, we are seeking intelligent, data-driven teachers eager to uphold the same academic excellence that made our flagship school in Tucson the 2016 AZ Charter School of the Year. Our results and success support our belief that all students can succeed – no matter their background – with the right programs in place, and more importantly, the right people leading the way. That’s where you come in.

Our teachers answer these questions with an emphatic YES!

Are you fiercely dedicated to helping at-risk students forge their way to a college education?

Do you believe that there are no limits to how much you can improve in the art and science of teaching?

Do you believe that setting high expectations for students (academically and behaviorally) sets them up for success?

Do you believe in the importance of a balanced education with a STEM focus in addition to arts, humanities, and character development?

Qualifications & competencies:

A bachelor’s degree or higher
Prior experience working with children
Strong analytical abilities and a love for data-driven instruction
Dedication to going above & beyond for your students
Collaborative work style paired with the ability to take initiative
High standards for both yourself and your students
Charter school teachers ARE NOT required to be certified, but are required to be highly qualified in their grade level or subject

Why work for us?

Competitive salaries and bonus pay
Full benefits including medical, dental, vision, retirement (with employer contributions), PTO, and disability and life insurance
Supportive, collaborative culture with incredible coworkers and leaders
Comprehensive training, follow-up coaching, PD, and professional learning communities
Extensive opportunities for career mobility/advancement as our schools and network continue to grow and expand to new areas
The chance to truly make a difference in the lives of children who may not otherwise have access to a high-quality education

  • Welcome TO Academies of Math & Science!

We are a group of four (soon to be 5) highly performing K-8 charter schools in Tucson and Phoenix, AZ, serving 2600 students, 81% of which qualify for or receive free or reduced lunch and 76% of which are ethnic minorities. Our schools dramatically outperform other schools serving similar demographics.

We use the best methods, systems, and programs available to us at any time to reach our mission of sending kids to college. Our major assumptions are that no matter what difficulties students face in their homes, their achievement largely depends on us and that no kids are too different or too tough to teach. Students' geographies are not their destinies. All students with the desire for a better life can acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for success in college. Our program is built to transition motivated students in grades K-8 from a teacher to a student directed education, providing them the skills to succeed in extremely competitive high school programs and ultimately, college.

Our expectation for students is to pay it forward: to use their education to become mentors, to volunteer, and to take on a personal lifelong mission of improving the human condition for the rest of the world.

To provide students the education students deserve and to provide the nation, a generation prepared to deal with unsolved and new problems, join us. Help us to turn all students, regardless of their background or the neighborhood they live in, onto the path to college and a better life.

Let's improve education together. Learn more about us...
