Job Description

SUBJECT: DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH AND ACOUNTABILITY

REPORTS TO: Susan O’Neil, Deputy Superintendent

ANTICIPATED START DATE: IMMEDIATELY

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:
The Director of Research and Accountability is responsible to manage systems and structures that utilize assessments, surveys, research, and other pieces of data to inform instruction, professional development and program evaluation. The Director is expected to be monitoring the district’s performance across a multitude of indicators and be recommending improvements. The Director also serves as the district’s liaison to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on matters pertaining to student testing and school accountability systems.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Implement, monitor, and recommend improvements to the district’s comprehensive accountability system

2. Analyze student performance data to assess the instructional efficacy of curriculum and professional development; and, to make recommendations for improvements.

3. At the request of the Superintendent or her designee, design and oversee a process to assess the effectiveness of instructional programs or initiatives.

4. Provide leadership on district and school improvement initiatives. Provide leadership and guidance to schools in the writing of school improvement and/or accountability plans.

5. Support district and building-based instructional leadership teams by creating reports and presenting materials to foster policies and practices that lead to improved student achievement.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Master’s degree in an education with a research component, or in statistics, or in public policy with a research component

2. Demonstrated leadership in an educational setting

3. Demonstrated understanding of statistics and data analysis

4. Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple roles and responsibilities.

5. Experience converting data and statistical analyses into action plans for non-mathematical users

6. Demonstrated success designing, organizing and leading a systemic change process in a large, complex, diverse organization.

7. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage limited resources to support strategic organizational goal attainment.

8. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team building skills.

9. Successful experience working in a diverse organization or urban setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. MA DESE license as a Supervisor/Director, Principal or Superintendent
2. Demonstrated success leading school improvement initiatives that close student achievement gaps between racial, ethnic, and economic groups.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of research based current curriculum, instruction, assessment and staff development best practices

WORK DAY: The typical work day is Monday-Friday 8:30AM -4:30PM. The Director will occasionally be expected to attend evening meetings.

WORK YEAR: 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year (4 weeks’ vacation)

SALARY: $113,000-116,000 annually (July 1 to June 30). This is a non-represented position.
