Job Description

Position will remain open until filled.  Initial Screening will begin 1/2/2018.

Contract Terms:

Twelve (12) Month Contract
Middle Management Pay Schedule
Benefits - Schedule C / Exempt Employee

Nature of Work: 
The employee is responsible to stay current with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Colorado statutes, Colorado Department of Education financial policies and procedures and proposed legislative issues (federal and state.  The employee is expected to use accounting and budget analytical skills to make decision resolving problems and to work professionally with all levels of district personnel.
 
Qualifications:
 
Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field and
  • Minimum three (3) years professional accounting experience or
  • Combination of five (5) years professional accounting experience and education
Preferred:
  • Experience in interpreting federal rules. regulations, Colorado statutes
  • Experience analyzing and preparing financial statements
  • Experience in governmental accounting and the accepted accounting principles promulgated by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB)
  • Greater than five (5) years of accounting and/or auditing experience
  • Experience in school district business operations
  • Experience developing queries/reports
  • Certified public accounting experience or Masters in Business Administration
Other Qualifications/Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to follow complex oral and written instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail oriented with excellent proofing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, organize and execute work effectively, using independent judgment to provide overall direction for reaching organizational goals
  • Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain complex financial records, gather and compile data and prepare financial reports accurately
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, parents and other community members
  • Ability to work tactfully and courteously with students, staff and the general public
  • Demonstrated ability to be patient with a strong customer orientation toward students, staff, parents and other community members
  • Possesses an excellent work attitude and the ability and willingness to take ownership and responsibility for project completion
Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements for specific funds and research variances of budget vs. actual
  2. Assist the accounting technicians in resolving accounts payable and accounts receivable issues
  3. Bank Reconciliation as assigned
  4. Financial Transparency completion and monitoring
  5. Prepare journal entries as needed
  6. Responsible for sales tax reporting inclyding education of appropriate staff
  7. Assist Accounting Supervisor as needed
  8. Assist in preparation of technical procedure documents when needed
  9. Ensure all appropriate financial internal controls are in place and followed by staff
  10. Assist with the implementation of new software modules in the accounting system and training employees
  11. Responsible for knowing all aspects of the accounting process
  12. Assist in preparing for fund balance projections for the proposed and amended budget
  13. Completion/development of the work papers required for the annual audit
  14. Provide training to department and school personnel when needed
  15. Stay current with school finance legislation, Colorado Departmen of Education rules and regulations
  16. Serve on various ad hoc committees as needed
  17. Perform any and all other duties as assigned
