Position Title:  Content Specialist – (Math)
 
Position Type:  Salaried ($49,209 annual) / Exempt; Funded with State Compensatory Education Funds.
***(This position is contingent upon annual grant funding from the ESEA, Title I, Part A – Improving Basic Programs – Fund 285.)
 
Position Hours:  Full-Time, Monday-Friday; 40 hours per week
 
Length of Term/Employment:  205 days/ At-will
 
Reports To:  Campus Principal
 
Position Mission:  The role of the Content Specialist is to provide support and guidance to classroom teachers in research-based instructional strategies in the applicable content area and to implement the curriculum. Emphasis will be on modeling those instructional strategies in classrooms; planning collaboratively with teachers and instructional specialists; and maintaining a schedule of follow-up coaching/mentoring experiences.
 
Position Minimum Qualifications:  
Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited Institute of higher learning. Alternative Certification Program Certifications are accepted.
Must possess teaching certification from State Board for Educator.
Must have taken and passed appropriate TExES/ExCET exam or have equivalent approved by TEA.
Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by candidate.
 
Job Duties:  Content Specialist should collaborate with administrators and teachers at every grade level, who are responsible for administering and teaching applicable content area to achieve the following:

Instructional Strategies:
Plan, research, and implement professional development in research-based reading strategies and interventions with Title I teachers and classroom teachers serving at-risk students.
Model effective strategies, teach demonstration or collaborative lessons in the classroom, and coach effective research-based instructional strategies in applicable content area in classrooms serving at-risk students.
Provide support, coordination, and facilitation for Title I co-teaching teams focusing on at-risk students.
Serve as a resource for Title I teachers and Title I co-teaching teams by researching and recommending strategies, ideas, or materials that can enhance instruction and support Title I students failing or at risk of not meeting academic standards.
Guide and assist teachers with assessment of students for identification and placement in the Title I program through state and district based criteria.
Monitor Title I student progress through the identification and support of specific areas of need.
Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to the students.
Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with best practices, specific content knowledge, the physical limitations of the space provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
Assess student learning, through observations, authentic performance, and more formal methods, in an ongoing manner, providing frequent student feedback, information to parents and written progress reports.
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
 Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
Make provisions for being available to the students and to the parents for education-related purposes outside of the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
Plan and support purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s), teaching fellow(s), and co-teachers(s), while coaching and supporting their professional growth.
Maintain and improve professional competence.
Actively participate in team meeting sand serve on staff committees.
Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Student Growth and Development:
Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
Teach students to work toward self-discipline and responsibility.
Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus Administrator.
Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school.
Ensure good student discipline by being regular in attendance and on time.

Classroom Management and Organization:
Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
Take necessary and reasonable precautions to assure safety in the classroom and the school for all students.
Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior.
Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

Communication:
Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members.
Provide time in the evening, by phone, for questions and concerns that students and/or parents may have regarding education-related issues that could not be handled during the school day.
Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, directors, and teachers.
Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Work week schedule: Work day begins at 7:30 a.m.
Adheres to staff dress code.
Maintains a good working relationship with JAC staff and parents.
Actively supports and participates in fundraising activities of Jubilee Academic Center.
Compile, maintain, and fill all reports, records, and other documents required.
Actively stays abreast of new developments in education.
