Job Description

The Assistant Superintendent’s position is responsible for the direct administrative supervision of the following functional units: Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Building/Grounds/Operations and Maintenance (including construction projects), Transportation, School Nutrition, Athletics and other functional units as may be assigned by the Superintendent.

The Assistant Superintendent works directly with the Superintendent in promoting the educational objectives and values of collaborative planning, and the development of responsive programs and services. The position serves as acting chief executive officer at the request of, or in the absence of, the Superintendent.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Serves as a contributing member of the Executive Team and collaborates with a variety of functional units to assure that district
and school resources are applied to assure that the core mission of the District is achieved.
• Informs/Assists the Superintendent and Board of Directors in any number of identified initiatives that the district undertakes.
• Assists in overseeing, implementing and evaluating RSU14’s Strategic Plan.
• Works with the administrative team to successfully build support in the community for the District’s vision and mission; to include
the development of both short and long-term processes that will assure the desired outcomes.
• Supports the Superintendent in a continuous review and revision of operational goals, objectives and efforts to measure
progress toward their attainment.
• Serves as the District’s Chief Financial Officer.
• Works collaboratively with the District office and school personnel to develop, present and administer the school budget.
• Serves as Human Resources Director. Serves as the District’s Affirmative Action/Title IX Officer. Serves a Chief Negotiator for all
District labor contracts. Supervises and directs employees in human resource development.
• Organizes and/or chairs various committees as directed.
• Participates in system-wide policy development.
• Maintains a positive, collaborative and mutually supportive working relationship with community agencies, parents, students and
district staff.
• Recognizes staff and student activities and achievements.
• Attends School Board meetings.
• Remains current on developments and innovations in the field.
• Performs other related work as required and requested.

    Job Requirements

    • Qualifications
      • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in educational administration or equivalent in a related field. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting,
      Business Administration or, Finance preferred.
      • Minimum of ten years’ experience in teaching and/or previous school level administrator and/or District office experience.
      • A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
      • Must possess or be eligible for Maine Certification with endorsement 010-Superintendent of Schools and/or 015-Assistant
      Superintendent of Schools and hold an approved Maine CHRC at time of hire.
    • Master degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency OR WORK VISA IN United States required
