K-12 English Language Development (ELD) ~ Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA)

 

DEFINITION: The primary purpose of this position is to instruct and supervise a diverse group of children by establishing a positive, respectful learning environment, providing ample and varied learning opportunities and promoting high standards of performance for all students regardless of their background and developmental levels. The ELD TOSA will serve as a liaison between the students, families, community and district. The TOSA will support the academic achievement of ELD students by facilitating and providing professional development, coaching, and mentoring to teachers within the district.

 

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:  Valid Oregon teaching license with ESOL/ELL endorsement and appropriate grade level authorization. Proficient oral and written communication skills in the English language. Familiarity with a variety of age-appropriate instructional, assessment, and behavior management strategies. Familiarity with Oregon English Language Proficiency standards. Ability to direct students in a positive, productive, and clear manner. Ability to direct the work of instructional assistant(s). Ability to travel among school district facilities as needed. Fluency in Spanish preferred. Knowledge and skills in areas such as mentoring; classroom management; sheltered instruction; peer coaching. Expertise in working with colleagues in areas of professional development. Effective communication, planning, organization, presentation, and leadership skills; ability to work with and motivate others. Ability to plan and present information/training for the adult learner. Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and effective professional relationships with teachers, administrators, parents, students and community. Ability and willingness to work outside the traditional teacher working hours and calendar including evenings and weekends.

 

CONTRACT: Temporary 1.0 FTE contract (in response to approved District calendar) for the remainder of the 2017-18 school year. Start date to be negotiated. Salary and full benefits per Licensed negotiated agreement.
