ESL Interpreter


LOCATION: Division Wide



Director of Assessment & School Improvement




FLSA STATUS:  Non-Exempt



ESL Interpreter/Translator was established for the purpose(s) of enhancing success of non or limited
English speaking parents; enlisting parental involvement, at the school level, in educational programs and
activities; providing assistance to schools with the translations of written materials and interpretations of
verbal exchanges; and facilitating positive parent relationships.



The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

  • Assist schools and families with translation of educational meetings/workshops, etc.
  • Communicate with parents on behalf of schools (e.g. translate/interpret assist with completing paperwork, etc.) for the purpose of emphasizing school priorities and/or ensuring the continuous existence of partnerships between the school and home.
  • Conduct parent/family contacts (home and school) for the purpose of obtaining and/or relaying information
  • Respond to inquiries for the purpose of providing information, facilitating communication among parties and/or providing direction.
  • Translate/interpret written materials and conversations for the purpose of facilitating communication between parents and schools.
  • Flexibility in working with parents and school personnel in a wide variety of circumstances.
  • Provide assistance with scheduling and/or conducting parent/family workshops.
  • Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: community resources and principles of a community services program; target language; and concepts of grammar and punctuation.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned


  • Knowledge of school system procedures and processes helpful
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Ability to accurately translate written materials and interpret verbal exchanges

  • Competent in communicating effectively in both English and Spanish (or language other than

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with district-level administrators, community leaders, agency representatives, media, and others

  • Ability to develop and compile a variety of records, reports and presentations using a variety of
    technology skills

  • Ability to work in a classroom setting; establish and maintain working relationships with staff, support personnel, counselors, principals, parents, medical personnel and students.

  • Understanding of the English language.

  • Ability to perform duties with a professional and cooperative work ethic.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.


To be able to successfully interpret a language other than English.

Associates Degree preferred

Specifically looking for:
