METCO Middle School Coordinator

To promote high academic achievement and cultural excellence among METCO students via effective
collaboration with students, parents and school staff.

Works under the supervision of the METCO Director

Report to Wilson Middle School by 7:15 a.m. (works 18.75 hours per week)
? Initiate and maintain timely communication with teachers, parents, the METCO Director and all
students to monitor their academic progress and welfare. Consult with the principal, assistant
principals, guidance counselors and other school and METCO Inc. personnel as required.
? Tutor selected students during scheduled METCO support periods.
? Tutor selected students, not scheduled for METCO support , individually and/or in small
groups before school. Assist METCO students as available and assist/support METCO support
a.m. programs.
? Help students develop organization and time management skills to foster on time homework
completion with particular attention to long term projects.
? Attend certain parent/teacher conferences.
? Submit copies of all reports, documents and correspondence pertaining to students' progress to
the METCO Director.
? Promote students’ participation in, and parents’ knowledge of, co-curricular activities with
particular attention to attendant transportation arrangements.
? Assist the METCO Director with preparation for and delivery of the annual placement
activities. Attend the Information Session held at the Wilson Middle School for the parents of
prospective students.
? Attend the beginning of both Open Houses as requested by the METCO Director.
? Attend Natick METCO Parent Council meetings in Boston at the request of the Director.
Contact the principal, sub coordinator and METCO Director by 6 a.m. if he/she is to be absent.
Other duties as assigned by the METCO Director.

Education and Experience:
Minimum of a bachelor's degree
Massachusetts licensed educator preferred
Experience fostering high academic achievement among students of color in an educational setting
In depth knowledge of the history, philosophy and purpose of the METCO program

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to interact effectively with parents, school staff, the METCO Director and students as a partner
in students’ education
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; facility with Middle school math, literature
and language.
Ability to fulfill multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment

Tools and Equipment Used:
Phone console; familiarity with personal computer and ability to navigate Microsoft and Google Suite
Apple background a plus.
