Job Goal

To promote student success, provide preventative services and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school-based counseling program that addresses academic, career and personal/social development of students.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Education related field
  • AZ Counselor Certificate
  • AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Three years exemplary teaching experience, preferred

  • Organize the counseling program by assessing needs, setting goals, and implementing services
  • Initiate and coordinate school-wide counseling services and activities
  • Maintain an organized, functional, and current office/counseling center
  • Demonstrate knowledge of counseling protocols be selecting appropriate models and techniques for individual and group counseling
  • Use appropriate counseling processes and techniques for individual and group sessions to meet developmental, preventative, and remedial needs of students
  • Follow up individual and group counseling to monitor student progress

 

    • Monitor student academic performance, behavior and attendance and facilitate appropriate interventions
  • Uses appropriate assessment and diagnostic procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling services

 

  • Assist students, individually or in groups, with developing academic and personal/social skills, goals and plans
  • Assisting students with post-secondary planning
  • Collaborate with staff in assessing and monitoring student progress toward meeting goals
  • Consult and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student’s identified needs and concerns
  • Develop, monitor and maintain ECAP program for individual students
  • Perform annual credit audits for students to meet graduation requirements
  • Develop and maintain graduation plans for each student
  • Facilitate annual student registration and assist individual student scheduling needs and updates
  • Provide and support prevention programs including violence prevention, conflict resolution, anti-bullying strategies, peer mediation, and character education
  • Counsel individuals, groups, parents, staff and community regarding concerns about family, friends, school and grades including referrals to community agencies when appropriate
  • Participate on assessment teams and analyze data for decision making
  • Develop and coordinate 504 plans for identified students
  • Review Individualized Education Plans and ensure mandated timeframes for collaboration are followed
  • Utilize district data systems to collect and analyze data relative to attendance, behavior and achievement
  • Use available technology resources to enhance the school counseling program
  • Assist staff with strategies and methodologies to determine how to best meet the academic, social, emotional and developmentally appropriate needs of students
  • Collaborate, consult, and coordinate with community agencies and provide referrals on behalf of students and families
  • Serve on the Crisis Team and provide crisis management and intervention, when needed
  • Perform staff development and parent education and training as it relates to the school counseling program
  • Participate on Mandatory Reporting Team
  • Serves as a liaison between school and home for children with needs
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of counseling
  • Participate as a member of RTI process on campus, as needed
  • Coordinate standardized testing at the site level with administrators, as needed
  • Attend Nonviolent Crisis Prevention Intervention training
  • Create and maintain counseling webpage per site expectations
  • Adhere to laws, policies, procedures and ethical standards of the school counseling profession
  • Attend a variety of extra-curricular school activities to develop relationships with the students and community
  • Perform all other duties or serve on district and site based committees as assigned by the administrator
