Job Description

The Head Teacher is responsible for the coordination and the supervision of the daily operations of their assigned classroom(s) or work location(s). He/she participates in the design and implementation of educational and clinical programs of assigned clients. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the participation in the ISP/IEP development and monitoring; supervision and evaluation of the assigned staff; and oversight of the operational systems within the site(s).


The Head Teacher reports to the Educational Director or the Director of Student Day Services. He/she works in conjunction with their assigned teaching staff to insure that there is consistent implementation of educational and clinical programs for their assigned clients. He/she assures the quality of services while maintaining positive and consistent working relationships with all staff and works as a constructive and active team member in all duties.

    Job Requirements

    • 1. BS/BA in a related field is required, as well as Special Education – Severe/Profound Certification REQUIRED

      2. At least two years of teaching in a facility for special needs population is required.

      3. Excellent interpersonal skills. Communication skills must include accuracy, clarity and consistency.

      4. Maturity, good judgment and ability to handle confidential information. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities.

      5. Must be proficient or become proficient in First Aid, CPR and Medication Administration

      6. Must have a valid driver’s license.
    • At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
    • Bachelor degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
