Under the direction of the Senior Vice President of Academic Advancement & Partnerships, the Executive Director of Child Development will ensure the success of all facets of child development operations, including quality standards, outcomes and measurements, staffing, supervision, program development, volunteer recruitment, financial development, community relations, collaborations, budgeting and financial results. This Executive will also manage all aspects of the YMCA of Greater Boston Food Programs (CACFP & SFSP). We see this person as an expert in child development programs with a proven track record of driving quality results in a dynamic and multi-faceted organization. The Executive Director ensures the connection of program activities to Y core focus areas of Healthy Living, Youth Development, and Social Responsibility.

Essential Responsibilities:

Work collaboratively with Y executives to develop and nurture community relationships and other key stakeholders to drive enrollment and engagement.
Works collaboratively with Senior Leadership to ensure consistent department messaging, leadership and strategic priorities.
Models effective Cause Driven Leadership competencies to ensure staff development activities are paramount in their leadership responsibilities.
Oversees the hiring, training, and supervision of staff and drives an effective performance management system.
Works collaboratively with the SVP of Academic Advancement & Partnerships to ensure sound operations in all CACFP and SFSP programs.
Ensures the perpetuation of a consistent culture of quality program development.
Establishes systems for the development, implementation, and monitoring of relevant curricula across all programs.
Ensures consistent implementation of all policies and procedures within Child Development and Food Programs and establishes a system of accountability for meeting all regulatory and YMCA guidelines.
Enhances compliance and positive organizational reputation; accepts a challenge to implement innovation while ensuring efficiency; explores incentives for educators to build upon their career and skill sets in working with families and children.
Reports progress and escalates critical issues with senior leadership.
Develops strong relationships with key staff and partners to facilitate growth, expansion, and execution of partnerships.
Develops and directs high quality relationship-based member engagement strategies. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.
Provides project support for the child development leadership team.
Provides solutions for program specific and/or child development challenges.
Additional Responsibilities:

Access of professional development opportunities and attendance at relevant YMCA/external trainings and meetings.
Representation of the YMCA in a professional manner within the community and its programs.
Assurance that programs implement activities and initiatives that are priorities of educational partners, along with those of the YMCA, its strategic plan, and its mission.
Additional responsibilities as deemed necessary by supervisor and program needs.
Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
Bilingual Preferred
Ten or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other not-for-profit agency. Specific experience supervising and mentoring staff in the child development field and experience in CACFP and food programs.
Proven track record of meeting and/or exceeding licensing and compliance standards.
Designing, implementing, documenting and monitoring organizational systems to ensure consistency.
Advanced ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.
Ability to direct assigned operations including volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations and program development/management.
Effective written and oral communication skills must be demonstrated.
Commitment to the philosophy and goals of the Y, particularly those identified as outcomes for children participating in YMCA of Greater Boston’s Child Development Programs.
YMCA Multi Team Leader Certification preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, talk and listen. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
Must be able to drive between the two branches and around the community to attend meetings and events.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Evening work is expected and may be required.

Required Training/Certifications:

Child Abuse Prevention (within 30 days of employment)
Respect in the Workplace and Sexual Harassment (within 30 days of employment)
Multi-Team or Branch Leader Certification within 18 months

The effectiveness with which the Executive Director of Child Development Programs has performed on the job should be measured in terms of:

Consistent quality curriculum and program model in all child development programs.
Child Development programs meet or exceed budgeted expectations.
YMCA of Greater Boston will be viewed by parents and school systems as a leader in child development with the programs being the choice in the Greater Boston area.
Full Compliance with CACFP & SFSP.
Meets and exceeds standard set by both the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) and the Department of Public Health (DPH).
Sound administration of the department, evident in purposeful and coordinated programs, good public relations, development of personnel, and good record keeping and fiscal management.
Improved perception of the YMCA in the community.
