Job Description

Position: High School Principal
Location: Match High School (Boston, MA – Brighton Campus)
Start date: July 2018, or sooner

The Match Public Charter School is a high-performing, innovative charter public school in Boston, serving students from Pre-K to 12th grade on multiple campuses across the city. Our mission is to prepare students from Boston for success in college and beyond. Match Charter Public School students are some of the highest performing students in the state, and over 80% of our graduating seniors enter four year colleges every year (For more information on our results, please visit us at http://www.matchschool.org.)

Our school design is unique. We have incredibly high academic and behavioral expectations for our students: our students, for example, are required to take multiple AP classes and BU courses before they graduate. We pair this rigorous curriculum with an incredible amount of support from teachers, school leadership, and our tutoring program.

Our high level goal is to develop our high school into the best public high school in the country. We plan to achieve this goal – measured by student achievement data and persistence – with an ambitious school design and incredibly talented educators.

To that end, Match is seeking an educator with a track record of success to lead the high school faculty as the Principal. The Principal will manage the growth and development of our 9th-12th grade student body. This is an incredible opportunity for someone who has achieved success as a school leader in an urban school, or an experienced teacher with leadership potential looking to take the next step.

Reporting Relationship
The Principal will report directly to the Chief Academic Officer (CAO).

Reporting to the Principal will be the Match High School Instructional Leaders, the Director of Operations, the Match Corps Director, Special Education Director, the Dean of Students, as well as other school based staff.

Detailed Job Responsibilities
The main performance metrics for this position are student achievement outcomes and attrition. In meeting those goals, the Principal will be responsible for:

• The growth, performance, and retention of teachers and other school staff. This work will be the primary focus of the Principal. The Principal, in his or her work as an academic leader, is responsible for the management, development, and performance of school faculty. This work is all encompassing and includes hiring decisions, evaluation, development and retention of faculty members through weekly PD sessions, summer training, weekly meetings, observations, and more. The Principal manages the school staff – instructional leaders, Dean of Students, Special Education Director, Dean of Students, and Match Corps Director – who supervise and coach school faculty, associate teachers, and tutors.
• Strategic Planning and Change Management. The Principal will work collaboratively with the CAO on the long-range planning process for the middle school including staff development, retention, and growth pathways, course offerings, course sequences, and refinement of tutorial and curriculum.
• Leadership and vision on curriculum, assessments, and pedagogy. The Principal will be responsible for collaborating closely with high school Instructional Leaders, Curriculum Directors, and the CAO to ensure that the Match School curriculum and assessments are effectively implemented to ensure that Match’s instructional vision and approach are reflected in every Match classroom.
• Student culture and discipline. The Principal will have overall responsibility for all levels of school culture and discipline in the school. This includes both making sure the day-to-day culture and enforcement of policies is strong, and dealing with more specific, more severe, student issues. This does not mean that the Principal will be responsible for processing all discipline infractions. It does mean that s/he is responsible for creating a team from the staff available to him and leading that team to address all discipline issues both large and small.
• Family and Community. As the head of the school, the Principal ensure there is relentless relationship building with and communication with students and families.

Competitive applicants will possess:

• Prior experience as a successful school principal in a school with similar demographics, or significant experience leading teams and managing adults
• At least 5 years of teaching experience with a proven record of student success
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
• Strong presence
• Thoughtful and decisive decision making ability
• An unwavering commitment to Match’s mission of college success and beyond,
• Excitement about the possibility of receiving feedback and using it to grow continually,
• A desire to see all students succeed.
