Bridges Public Charter School is a growing PreK3 to 5th grade public charter school with 400 students and more than 120 staff. The Chief Operating Officer reports directly to the head of the school and is a member of the school’s leadership team. As a member of the school’s leadership team this individual supports setting the tone and culture of the school and ensuring the school achieves its mission. This position plays the key role of leading all facets of the school’s day-to-day and long-term operations. Additionally, this individual co-leads the school’s partnership with Briya Public Charter School in the management of the facility it shares with Briya and Mary’s Center.

Serve as point of contact on all financial matters – budget, reporting, compliance, annual audit
Review and approve bi-weekly payroll
Review and approve weekly substitute teacher log from third-party service provider
Review, categorize, and submit for processing expense authorizations for reimbursements, manual checks, and other expenses
Review, scan, and submit invoices received by mail and e-mail
Oversee recordkeeping of payments received at school (received by mail and in-person)
Make bank deposits of all payments received at school (cash, check, money order)
Ensure compliance with school’s Fiscal Policies Handbook
Human Resources
Serve as school’s point of contact, with outside HR specialist, on all HR matters
Be a leadership resource to all staff
Ensure Employee Handbook meets all external and internal requirements (legal, regulatory, Public Charter School Board, school)
Review, recommend updates, and oversee distribution of Employee Handbook
Review, recommend updates, oversee implementation of compensation scales
Oversee onboarding and HR-related support of staff (policies, benefits, training, payroll, equipment, keys, access card, user id)
Serve as school’s point of contact with outside counsel on business, employment, finance, and related matters
Review, edit, make recommendations on all legal matters and documents
Serve as school’s point of contact with insurers
Manage, review, edit, and submit all newsletter articles for Spanish translation
Review, edit, submit other school communications for Spanish translation
Draft, review, edit, approve select internal and external communications
Oversee daily opening of building
Oversee morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up of students; check-in routinely with DDOT crossing guards who manage street pedestrian traffic
Manage operations staff of six who are responsible for student enrollment, facilities, student food service, front desk, information technology, school-wide communications, equipment, supplies, and building operations
Lead school’s emergency response team responsible for all emergency conditions (e.g., fire or lock-down)
Manage or oversee management of third-party vendors that support key functions (e.g., finance, HR, IT, student data, janitorial)
Serve as point of contact for major on-site contractors including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, elevator, and grounds
Serve as school’s lead, in partnership with Briya PCS, on:
Dealings with lenders, including routine reporting, equity drawdowns, and facility matters
Banking matters
Setting, tracking, and meeting annual budget requirements
Submitting expenses for processing
Reviewing and approving expenses for payment
Insurance matters
Membership and involvement with the Community Purchasing Alliance
Manage school’s lease at separate location that is subleased to Breakthrough Montessori Public Charter School
Serve as point of contact with landlord on lease payments and property matters
Serve as point of contact with tenant on sublease payments and occupancy matters
Serve as the point of contact with the Metropolitan Police Department
Serve as the point of contact with DDOT crossing guards
Serve as senior point of contact on all internal/external safety or security matters (staff, students, parents/guardians, neighbors, community)
Community Relations
Be a leadership point of contact with the parent community
Be a leadership point of contact for neighborhood matters
Serve as one of four points-of-contact with the ANC on facility and community related matters

The ideal candidate must have the following experience, education, and skills:
Minimum of 10 years of experience in the same or a similar role
Master’s degree in business, non-profit management, or equivalent
Demonstrated success helping an organization provide superior services on time and within budget
Deep knowledge of systems and processes for non-profit organizations, including operations, finance, reporting, and governance
Demonstrated ability to be a role model for others and source of positive reinforcement
High integrity and strong work ethic
Sets expectations, standards, and plans to achieve goals and allocates resources, holds people accountable, and rewards achievement
Ability to manage multiple priorities, organize a diverse workload, handle multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines consistently
Strong ability to be both conceptual and detail oriented
Works effectively with varying team dynamics
Superior oral and written communication skills
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, in particular Excel, and other third-party applications
Track record of being a team player and community minded
Projects a welcoming image, representing and communicating the beliefs and values of the school
Professional and feels comfortable interacting with a variety of people including adults and children
