Compass Charter School is an inquiry-based, inclusive, progressive elementary school that opened in the fall of 2014 at 300 Adelphi (between Dekalb and Lafayette) in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. In September 2017, the school will serve students in grades K-4.

Compass Charter School is seeking crisis paraprofessionals to provide 1:1 support to a child who requires assistance throughout the day.

Crisis Paraprofessional:
Support child with transition between activities and support child as they complete schoolwork
Support child to ensure safety during transitions and challenging behavioral situations
Conduct 1:1 sessions with the child in reading, writing, and math under the supervision of the classroom teachers
Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) under the direction of the School Psychologist and/or Social Workers and Director of Learning Supports, by completing chart daily
Document child’s activities on daily basis
Communicate professionally with teachers, staff, and families

Willingness to commit to a full school year of work
Experience working with children, especially children with special needs who require health support and/or behavioral support and intervention
Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a team of teachers and support staff
Willingness to accept and implement feedback
Ability to implement a behavior plan and support a child through challenging behaviors
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding student’s disability, etc.

Hours for positions are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and Wednesday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm
