DESCRIPTION OF THE SCHOOL
Compass Charter School is an inquiry-based, progressive elementary school that opened in the fall of 2014 in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. At full capacity we will serve children from kindergarten through fifth grade. In the 2017-2018 school year we will have approximately 250 students in kindergarten through fourth grade.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Compass Charter School is seeking a School Aide to join our team. The School Aide will will work closely with students, staff members, and families to ensure that the school runs smoothly and children’s needs are met each day. The School Aide will be a vibrant and compassionate person who has experience working with elementary aged children in a school setting.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma
Experience working with elementary aged children or in a school setting
Experience working with children with special needs, preferred
Interest in working in an experiential and inquiry-based school environment teaching and learning
Flexible and able to adapt to the needs of the school throughout the school day and school year
Commitment to working with a diverse group of children and adults
Strong interpersonal skills
Experience collaborating with children, families, colleagues, and administrators
Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work with a team of teachers and support staff
Willingness to accept and implement feedback
Ability to follow through on tasks and meet deadlines
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding students and families


Responsibilities:

Contributes to carrying out the mission and vision of Compass Charter School
Supervise children during mealtimes and outdoor play to ensure student welfare and wellbeing
Assist with bus service, including serving as a bus captain
Provide first aid for children as needed
Assist classroom teachers during lessons, on field trips, and at recess
Provide small group or individual support for children throughout the school day
Support children with behavioral needs in the classroom
Monitor students in bathrooms and hallways to ensure their safety
Support children with personal hygiene (hand washing)
Support teachers in the setup and organization of the classroom environment
Escort children to the nurse as needed
Provide support to the school office by completing tasks such as attendance, filing, copying, and organization
Distribute snack to classrooms


FINGERPRINTING CLEARANCE THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATiON IS REQUIRED
