General Information

 

Willamette Education Service District is accepting applications for a part-time (20-30 hours per week) Behavior Intervention Instructional Assistant.  The position will be based at the MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility in Woodburn, OR.  Successful candidate will follow a 220-day calendar and will begin immediately upon conclusion of the hiring process.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in preparation of materials and equipment to meet individual student learning needs effectively
  • Supports Positive Behavior Support (PBS) and Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) in the school setting
  • Assists WESD and OYA administration in implementing programs and/or activities to promote positive student behavior, as well as intervention strategies to include a working knowledge of the CPS Models and Restorative Justice models
  • Assists in the implementation of student IEP’s (Behavior support plans, safety plans) and other student plans
  • Collects and charts data as assigned by WESD and OYA administration
  • Works closely with all school personnel to support and assist staff in implementing interventions as outlined in the team’s plans
  • Supports social skills building under the supervision of Administration
  • Maintains positive, professional relations with students, teachers, other OYA staff and administration
  • Generates written correspondence and reports that are well organized and grammatically correct
  • Communicates clearly in writing on required and requested documentation, such as student progress and other monitoring data
  • Communicates clearly and positively with staff, specialists and administrators
  • Works closely and collaboratively with all staff
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal

 

Qualifications

  • AA Degree from an accredited college or university (Bachelor’s preferred). Significant experience working in a therapeutic milieu or correctional facility also accepted
  • Prior to employment, provide certification of Highly Qualified (HQ) status or show documentation of a minimum of 72 hours of college credit, or Associate of Arts degree, or Bachelor's degree. Unofficial transcripts are accepted. If successful candidate does not possess any of the criteria stated above, WESD can offer employment as a substitute pending HQ achievement. To continue employment, a passing grade in all sections of the HQ assessment must be achieved no later than the next testing date.
  • CPS and/or Restorative Justice trained and supported
  • Possess knowledge and demonstrate competency in utilization of therapeutic approach in the de-escalation continuum
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with students who have significant behavioral and learning challenges
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with school staff, program staff, parents and community members
  • Possess other education and/or work experience that would enhance the effectiveness of this position
  • Previous experience working in a correctional facility or juvenile justice system preferred
  • Completion of the full 10-day Oregon Youth Authority Training preferred
  • Possess reliable transportation
  • Nationwide criminal history check and fingerprinting at employee’s expense are required

Salary and Benefits

  • This is a part-time (20-30 hours per week) Classified position represented by the Oregon School Employees Association.
  • Placement on the Willamette ESD Classified Salary Schedule Range 14, Step 1-3 ($17.15-$18.91 per hour) will be commensurate with applicant’s qualifications, relevant training and experience.

     Salary & benefits are prorated based upon FTE and hire date.
