Job Description

Amber Charter School was founded in 2000 as the first Latino-led charter school in New York State. The schools are located in East Harlem and Kingsbridge serving over 600 students in grades K to 5.

Education: High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

 

Skills & knowledge: Good writing, computer, communication, organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills. Some managerial and administrative experience. Previous work experience with electrical, plumbing, heating and ventilation systems. Experience in building maintenance. Certificate in fire safety preferred. Bilingual preferred.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the Chief Operations Officer on the implementation of new building projects.
  • Supervises custodian, porters, security guard, and outside contractors.
  • Develop and maintain regular cleaning assignments for custodial tasks.
  • Coordinate systems repairs and monitor systems performance.
  • Maintain adequate cleaning supplies and materials inventory and order items as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety and security protocols.
  • Communicate with cleaning company and manage the contract.
  • Ensure building is kept clean, safe, and presentable.
  • Ensure maintenance costs are kept within budget.
  • Seek bids, negotiate contracts, and secure final contracts for renovation/repair jobs.
  • Oversee all building renovation/repair projects from start to finish.
  • As necessary conduct routine tasks, such as fixing leaky pipes, painting rooms, patching drywall and fitting locks.
  • Be familiar with building blueprints.
  • Identify and assess any potential problems with the infrastructure. 
  • Serve as primary contact person for individuals or groups who want to use the building.
  • Make sure correct setup is completed for each scheduled event.

 

The Building Manager reports to the Director of Operations.

 

Compensation varies dependent on experience and relevant certificates held.
