  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • One or more years of job-related experience or its equivalent (preferred)
  • Excellent attendance and work record
  • Demonstrate proficiency of the English language to read and communicate with others
  • Demonstrate proficiency of basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Demonstrate knowledge and ability to perform tasks independently and give necessary help and direction to other workers
  • Mastery of job-related computational skills
  • Demonstrate job-related interactive skills (in firm but friendly manner)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pound
  • Successful completion of orientation and training for Nutrition Services employees
  • Successful completion of Cashier Training course
  • Finger dexterity and mental agility to operate on-line computer software programs and technological devices efficiently


  • Practical working knowledge of food safety practices and procedures
  • Ability to maintain current Douglas County Food Handler’s Certification
  • Sensitivity and ability to interact with students, co-workers, teachers, administrators, other staff, and parents of other cultures and backgrounds
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model for youth

Location:  Marrs Magnet Middle, 5619 South 19 Street, 68107 

Starting Pay: $12.84 per hour

Reports to:  Nutrition Services

Reporting Hours: 7.0 hours, 6:30am - 2:00pm, Monday - Friday





Primary responsibilities include collection of money, accounting of customers and types of meals served and the maintenance of accurate daily records.  Cashiers are expected to interact with students, staff and coworkers in a courteous, professional manner. Additional responsibilities include overall supervision and production coordination of the areas assigned; setting work schedules to assure task completion at designated times; and assisting with the preparation and serving of quality meals to students and staff, cleaning and sanitation of equipment, rotating food stock and supplies, and providing superior customer service.  


Specific Duties:

  • Estimate the time required to complete job-related tasks and plans accordingly
  • Perform money collection and customer accounting tasks accurately
  • Check trays for basic food group items and/or a la carte items and charge appropriately
  • Follow oral and written directions accurately
  • Follow cleaning and sanitation procedures
  • Assist with the preparation of and storage of food
  • Assist with worker training
  • Follow Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) procedures
  • Perform duties independently and as part of a team, under general supervision
  • Perform repetitive activities for prolonged periods of time
  • Practice good personal hygiene habits and required safety procedures
  • Maintain required food safety and  sanitation practices
  • Operate food service equipment in a safe manner
  • Recognize a “reimbursable” meal
