Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma required

Post high school secretarial training preferred

Assists the school media specialist and the STEAM instructional coach in the over-all operation of the School Media Center, Maker’s Space, and the Broadcast Journalism room

Assists in maintaining routine records and files related to media center activities including circulation of books, monies collected, and lost materials

Assists in maintaining the discipline of students and monitoring student use of electronic and digital media Maintains the media center, maker’s space, and broadcast room in a clean and orderly condition

Effectively communicates and collaborates with colleagues, supervisors, administrators, students, and parents Experience with computers and audio visual equipment preferred

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Ability to work with school staff

Ability to assist and supervise students

Interest in reading and literature

Outstanding references from current and former supervisors

Satisfactory SLED (SC Law Enforcement Division) report

 

Salary Range:   Support Services Salary Schedule, Group 6

 

Length of Contract:   185 days/7 hours per day

    

Starting Date:    2017-2018 School Year

Job Description for Media Convergence Assistant

Performance Responsibilities

  1. Assists the school media specialist and the STEAM instructional coach in the over-all operation of the School Media Center, Maker’s Space, and the Broadcast Journalism room.
  2. Effectively communicates and collaborates with colleagues, supervisors, administrators, students, and parents.
  3. Participates in daily duties and responsibilities within the school.
  4. Assists in creating an environment that is conducive to student learning, engagement, and involvement.
  5. Helps organize and maintain the routine operation of the school media center; receives, processes, circulates, and shelves print and non-print materials.
  6. Performs a variety of support functions including answering the telephone, preparing and sending overdue notices, locating lost materials, and inspecting books and periodicals for damage and performing repairs as necessary.
  7. Assists in maintaining routine records and files related to media center activities including circulation of books, monies collected, and lost materials.
  8. Assists in inventory activities as required.
  9. Actively supports teachers that seek assistance with the integration of digital media to support instructional goals through the scheduling and management of spaces and equipment.
  10. Assists teachers with the use of instructional materials and provides small group and individualized instruction around the use and application of digital technology.
  11. Is able to support learning experiences in one or more of the following subject areas: Print media, social media, video, TV, film, yearbook, blogs, magazine and/or newspaper production.
  12. Provides assistance around the effective use of digital technologies that are available to teachers in order to assist them in increasing student learning, involvement, and confidence to learn.
  13. Provides students assistance with the projects, including general research, presentations, and the production of documentary and dramatic journalistic pieces including but not limited to videos, articles, public service announcements, sports telecasts, and other media projects.
  14. Maintains the media center, maker’s space, and broadcast room in a clean and orderly condition.
  15. Operates on-line computer terminals and stand-alone computers within the media center.
  16. Assists in maintaining the discipline of students and monitoring student use of electronic and digital media.
  17. Prepares adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned by the media specialist, principal or his/her designee.
