POSITION: Curriculum Specialist – Mathematics - Office of Academics: Curriculum, Instruction & Media Literacy

 

REPORTS TO:

Director of Mathematics

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Department of Curriculum, Instruction & Media Literacy seeks a Curriculum Specialist - Mathematics to work with the Office of Academics to support the implementation of secondary curricula and instruction to ensure that all students meet expectations of the CT Core/Common Core State Standards and state/national standards. This position provides leadership, support, and serves as the liaison between teachers of mathematics and the department of Curriculum, Instruction & Media Literacy.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor implementation of curriculum and instructional practices through classroom visits, coaching, and consultations in mathematics
  • Collaborate with district leadership to develop district-wide context for curriculum and improve instruction through the implementation of curriculum and research-based instructional strategies
  • Provide support for the development of the mathematics curriculum and resources, create curriculum-based assessments, and lead curriculum writing teams
  • Engage in vertical articulation of curriculum goals and objectives
  • Provide leadership around cultural competency by creating equal educational opportunities for students from diverse racial, ethnic, social-class, and cultural groups
  • Develop and deliver professional learning to teachers in the implementation of curriculum and research-based instructional strategies
  • Provide leadership and support in the implementation of standards-based grading
  • Remain current in the research that supports curriculum development, instructional program design and delivery, and assessment in the assigned content areas
  • Assist in the selection of appropriate instructional materials, classroom tools, and assessment tools
  • Manage the tasks specific to the assignment as provided by immediate supervisors

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 5 years’ teaching experience
  • Master’s Degree in education or related field required
  • Experience and knowledge of CT Core/CCSS for Mathematics and SBAC
  • Experience and knowledge in development and implementation of mathematics curricula, programs and initiatives
  • Experience in implementing blended learning instructional strategies and design of student-centered learning desired
  • Demonstrated knowledge of educational technology and technology tools that support teaching and facilitate student learning
  • Experience developing and implementing professional learning
  • Demonstrated successful experience working with students, administrators, teachers, parents, and community partners
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in an educational setting
  • Excellent research and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Experience as a teacher leader

 

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Connecticut State Teacher Certification in Mathematics required

 

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

In accordance with HFT contract. Appendix E. Extended Day 6.7% (8 hour day)

 

EVALUATION: Evaluated Annually
