Job Description

 

Library Paraprofessional

Part time 3.9 hours/day - 19.5 hours/week

Paraprofessionals work in tandem with classroom teachers and other school personnel to provide assistance in the delivery of high quality instruction for students in and out of classroom settings.

Responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
• Overall care and maintenance of the library
• Manage circulation using the Library Resource Management System
• Stack all library material in appropriate location
• Process overdues for faculty and students
• Manage records of lost books and fines paid
• Create resource lists for faculty use
• Pull resources for faculty and set aside reserved titles for projects
• Maintain guided reading shelves
• Maintain benchmark book sets
• Coordinate book fairs
• Maintain record keeping of book fairs to ensure funding for new books
• Coordinate the Massachusetts Children’s Book Award Program
• For class read alouds, choose age appropriate/ curriculum based books
• Support students who come to library to complete research
• Coordinate library calendar for the use of space for special events
• Contribute to school wide events
• Collaborate with Salem Public Library
• Work closely and collaborate with classroom teachers on delivery of instruction;
• Provide small group and one-on-one instruction for students;
• Assist with classroom management and support social and emotional development;
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to create an effective learning environment that accommodates for any special or additional learning needs of students;
• Organize and maintain systems for instructional materials;
• Support the establishment of high expectations for each student;
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues;
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or classroom teacher

Job Requirements

  • Qualifications:
    Associate’s Degree or Forty-eight (48) Credit Hours of College Coursework or passing the Para-Pro Assessment test
    A minimum of 1 year experience working in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred
    Requires patience and strong academic support skills
    Fluency in Spanish (Preferred)
    Ability to run, stand, sit, stoop, crawl, kneel, reach, twist, push, sitting on the floor to complete activities and lift a child weighing 40 pounds
    Must have positive interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with others
  • Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
