The Nowell Leadership Academy seeks a passionate and highly skilled ELL Coordinator willing to do whatever it takes to ensure the academic success of all 160 Nowell Leadership Academy students. This is a unique opportunity to join the faculty of a small, forward-thinking charter school serving some of Rhode Island’s hardest working young adults. This position reports to the Director of Special Populations. This position is for the 2017-2018 academic school year.

Responsibilities include:

Ensuring that Nowell Leadership Academy complies with applicable federal and state laws and policies related to ELLs
Acting as Nowell's direct point of contact for the state for matters related to ELLs
Disseminating information from the state to educators/administrators at Nowell
Ensuring the proper identification of ELLs
Reporting ELLs in the LEP Census
Ensuring the accuracy of the LEP Census
Ensuring the proper instructional placement of ELLs
Ensuring that the English language instructional program at Nowell adheres to best practices
Coordinating the annual language proficiency testing (ACCESS) of ELLs
Coordinating Title III grant applications and Title III activities
Coordinating professional development, such as peer coaching, for ESL and general education teachers at Nowell
Analyzing data concerning the ELLs at Nowell and developing action plans to address areas of concern
Ensuring a process for exiting students when they meet the state-defined, required exit criteria
Ensuring that parents are provided with information as required by federal and state regulations

Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred;
A minimum of two years teaching experience in a diverse public school or charter school setting preferred, but not required;
Bilingual candidates preferred but not required;
A data-driven approach to measuring student achievement gains;
A commitment to working with a diverse student and staff population;
Successful applicants must hold a Rhode Island certificate by their date of hire.
