Position: Vocational Instructor                                       

School Site:  Operation New Hope

Location: Rancho Cucamonga                                                   

Schedule:  TBD

Starting Salary: $20.50/hr + Benefits

Status: Full-Time

 

Summary of Position

The Vocational Instructor will plan and implement curriculum that focuses on work readiness training as it relates to workforce competency in general and building Life Skills. He/she will work in conjunction with staff to extend the message of cultural diversity, tolerance, and creative expression. The Vocational Instructor reports directly to the JMCS Lead Teacher on campus who provides guidance with support from the JMCS Regional Director and ONH CEO. The instructor is expected to engage students in productive and measureable exercises and projects. He/ she will serve as a model for youth by building rapport with students and staff through positive interactions in program activities. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and practice that provides students with opportunities to observe, investigate, and practice skills.
  • Teach lessons using various media techniques and programs
  • Provide general work readiness instruction in partnership with community resources
  • Provide Life Skills training in conjunction with JMCS and ONH staff
  • Coordinate and supervise guest speakers and classes provided by community partners
  • Assist with daily set-up and daily clean up.
  • Model and enforce adherence to sound health and safety practices for students.  
  • Engage with students and use appropriate strategies to preemptively defuse inappropriate behavior and encourage positive interactions.
  • Assist with the enforcement of program policies and procedures regarding student conduct and attendance.
  • Prepare and administer written, oral, and performance assessments, and determine progress.
  • Review instructional content, methods, and student performance in order to assess strengths and weaknesses, and develop recommendations for curriculum revision, development, or elimination.
  • Responsible for completion and the timely submission of all program reports relative to this position, including but not limited to supply requests, lesson plans and timesheets.
  • Ensure proper care of all area materials, organize room and report any misused or damaged materials to the site coordinator and lead instructor in order to prevent injuries or damage.

 

Education and/or Experience

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; Junior level or higher preferred; Experience working with economically and educationally disadvantaged youth with a sound understanding of the social and cultural issues facing urban families is preferred.

Must be able to work during traditional business day—specific hours will be determined once candidate has been selected.
