To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop.



  1. Possesses knowledge of District policies and regulations relating to areas of responsibilities.
  2. Use appropriate safe methods to clean and sanitize blood and bodily fluids.
  3. Ensures safety during inclement weather by shoveling sidewalks, de-icing, etc.
  4. Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times.
  5. Paints as needed.
  6. Replaces/repairs door hardware.
  7. Washes or scrubs walls, floors, ceilings, furniture, fixtures, windows, and mirrors using hand or power equipment.
  8. Sweeps and dusts.
  9. Prepares surfaces for varnish, paint, wax, and/or polish.
  10. Knowledge of and ability to apply MSDS requirements in a safe manner.
  11. Makes minor repairs of equipment, furniture and fixtures.
  12. Removes broken glass and repairs windows.
  13. Lifts, stacks, stores and moves all types of supplies; equipment; and furniture in, out or between rooms, buildings, or places of business.
  14. Moves and uses ladders as necessary.
  15. Assumes responsibility for assisting in the general security of the building.
  16. Assumes responsibility for assisting with the general fire safety of the building.
  17. Identifies and uses, with skill, all types of custodial equipment and tools.
  18. Repairs electrical equipment as able, including fuses and the like.
  19. Handles emergency situation clean-ups, including blood and body fluid spills; false fire alarms; locked doors; broken glass; jammed or broken equipment; vandalism and the like.
  20. Keeps accurate and appropriate records relative to job responsibilities.
  21. Reports damage of school property to immediate supervisor and school administrators.
  22. Moves furniture, equipment, supplies, or large packages as requested by school personnel.
  23. Assists in before/after school activities, including set-up and clean-up processes as requested.
  24. Reports to school and responds to emergency situations as requested by administration.
  25. Helps install and maintains playground equipment as requested.
  26. Calls principal and/or Dunthorpe patrol with questions of group access.


  1. Attends staff meetings and/or serves on staff committees as required (e.g. Safety Committee).
  2. Works cooperatively with students, parents, staff and community members to project a positive, service-oriented demeanor.
  3. Maintains professional competence through participation in District provided in-service activities and/or self-selected professional growth activities related to job responsibilities.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned.


  1. Valid Oregon driver’s license and excellent driving required.
  2. FBI Fingerprint clearance required.
  3. Required health training: valid First Aid/CPR-AED cards; bloodborne pathogen and Epipen training.
  4. Genuine enjoyment of working with students and adults in a school setting.
  5. Outstanding communication skills—both oral and written—which are effective across a wide variety of audiences, including students, parents and staff.
  6. General knowledge of communication tools, including phone systems, email and like.
  7. Technical competencies, including clerical, maintenance, landscaping, and the like.


  1. Experience working with students in a school setting preferred.
  2. Experience as a custodian in a school setting or related environment preferred.


Moderate to extensive degree of physical stamina and frequent lifting up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds. Ability to lift furniture, desks, shelving, staging and cleaning supplies and equipment. Frequent and prolonged standing, walking and bending. Ability to climb ladders, and stretch and bend to perform such duties as cleaning, repairing, painting, cleaning roofs, gutters and drains and general maintenance. Ability to move freely around the school building and grounds. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Exposure to chemicals, dirt, dust, and paint. Exposure to noise and activity levels associated with school life.
