Job Description

1. Minimum of a master’s degree from accredited college or university.
2. Two years of experience and/or additional graduate training is desirable, but not essential.
3. Certification as a School Psychologist in Massachusetts or eligibility for certification.
4. An understanding of children with special needs and their families.

Reports to: Director of Pupil Personnel Services

Goal: To serve as a member of the team that recommends individualized educational programs for children with special needs.

1. Administer cognitive, psychological, and other assessments of referred students for diagnostic, educational and treatment planning purposes.
2. Interpret evaluations and diagnoses to school personnel, parents and the student.
3. Serve as a member of the diagnostic team that formulates educational programs including Individual Educational Plans, 504 Accommodation Plans, and Behavioral Plans.
4. Serve as a resource for students and parents to help students/families obtain services outside school by providing appropriate referrals.
5. Serve as a resource for students, parents, and staff regarding learning differences, emotional difficulties, and other conditions impacting academic, social, emotional, and behavioral functioning.
6. Provide and participate in in-service training for staff and parent workshops.
7. Develop system-wide crisis responses, coordinating with building administrators and crisis teams, helping provide resources in each building on short-term basis as needed.
