Position Summary:
The Information Literacy Specialist works in a variety of capacities to provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and is an integral component of the learning/instructional program. This individual will actively work with students to access, evaluate, ethically use, create, share, and synthesize information. Coordinating with faculty and staff, the Information Literacy Specialist serves as an instructional partner building and strengthening connections between student learners and research needs, curricular content, learning outcomes, and information resources.

This position blends information literacy and management with curation, digital citizenship, technology support, and program development. The Information Literacy Specialist is a full-time, academic year position that reports directly to the Principal of the school while working closely with the Director of Technology.

Skills and Essential Functions:
As a leader, the Information Literacy Specialist will create an environment where collaboration and creative problem solving thrive. The Information Literacy Specialist must be an excellent oral and written communicator who instills enthusiasm in others, and fosters an environment of creativity, innovation, a deep love of reading, and an openness to new ideas. The Information Literacy Specialist demonstrates his or her role as a visible and active leader within the school community, an advocate for the library, and a professional member of the school library community by:
• Maintaining and enhancing library collection. Ensuring resources meet current requirements while remaining flexible enough to adapt to future trends
• Developing a programmatic vision for the library that involves self-sustaining initiatives (topics could include: development of OER, digital citizenship, collaborative inquiry, fostering empathy, global citizenship, etc.)
• Researching and implementing opportunities to increase library connectivity beyond the building (ex. Virtual High School Consortium, blended learning opportunities, student publishing)
• Providing technology support for students and teachers with common applications, library desktops, laptops, printers, and iPads
• Guiding the transition of the library space away from a “silent study” model towards a hub of active and collaborative learning (learning commons model)
• Providing direct instruction to faculty and students about library resources, research best practices, digital citizenship, ethical reuse of materials
• Partnering with technology department to provide school-wide and small group trainings, workshops, and experiences to faculty, staff and students.

Education and Experience:
• Master’s degree (M.S. in Library Media or a Master’s of Library Science) or equivalent strongly preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in an educational setting in library/information services
• Proficiency with Destiny Library Circulation, Database Search Engines, and curation tools
• Demonstrated experience with technology integration and support: including, but not limited to G Suite for Education, Windows, OS X, iOS, interactive whiteboards, and A/V setups
