Job Description

Cathedral 7-12 High School seeks a part-time Culinary Chef for its food services operations. The Culinary Chef manages and participates in all aspects of the food service operation at Cathedral High School which includes but is not limited to inventory control, meal production, record keeping and catering.

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Demonstrates leadership and initiative in all tasks, which results in serving appetizing, nutritious, well prepared food items, which are served efficiently and pleasantly.
• Maintains a clean and sanitary kitchen.
• Works to control expenses and operate a financially responsible kitchen.
• Works with food service director to develop excellent and innovative menus.
• Communicates effectively with the School Nutrition Director, school administration, faculty, and students.
• Displays high level of personal integrity in the performance of duties. Accomplishes all tasks in a manner that promotes excellent customer service and positive attitudes.
• Supervise staff during meal preparation, service and clean up.
• Manages daily production of all meals and a la carte items on a timely basis, which includes forecasting, delegating, cooking, safe and accurate operation of all equipment, menu decisions, and meeting performance standards for the operations.
• Ensures food safety by managing the kitchen operation according to Boston Board of Health, Massachusetts Sanitation Code, and National Restaurant Association safety and sanitation standards.
• Maintains regular communication with Director, school administration, and other district personnel via school-assigned email account.
• Coordinates catering, when necessary.
• Experiments with and develops recipes for use in the food services program.
• Provides culinary guidance to the School Nutrition Director upon request.
• Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility.

    Job Requirements

    • Required:
      • ServSafe Certification
      • Minimum of 3 years food service supervision / management experience
      • Minimum of 3 years quantity food preparation experience
      • Demonstrated history of punctuality, good attendance, and leadership
      • Ability and willingness to participate in professional development and training in Child Nutrition to meet and exceed minimum USDA standards.

      Preferred:
      • School nutrition experience strongly preferred
      • Knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Program, food labels, ingredients and allergens
      • Certificate in School Nutrition: Level 1 minimum; Level 2 within first year of employment
      • Member of School Nutrition Association of Massachusetts.
    • At least 3 year s of relevant experience preferred
    • High School/Trade School degree preferred
    • Citizenship, residency OR WORK VISA IN United States required
