PT Level 2-4 Reading/Writing Teacher


Job Goal: The Reading/Writing Teacher will be primarily responsible for raising the reading and writing levels of a class of approximately 15-20 adult students. Students range in age and previous education; English is the second language for the majority of our students. Most students are working towards earning a high school equivalency credential. To this end, the RW teacher is also responsible for teaching a range of science and social studies topics. Although experience teaching literacy in the content areas is preferred, it is essential that the RW teacher has had training in and successful experience teaching explicit reading and writing skills/strategies. The RW teacher will work with the Program Administrator to plan the curriculum. The instructor must keep attendance records, document student progress, and assist with other DESE-related activities.


•Prepare and maintain written lesson plans and follow College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) for ELA (includes Reading, Writing, Social Studies and Science)
•Evaluate student progress and make placement recommendations
•Complete DESE attendance and assessment–related activities
•Attend monthly department meetings and meet with supervisor as needed
•Follow department policy/procedures regarding substitutes and substitute lesson plans


Minimum Qualifications:
•Bachelor's Degree (in literacy instruction, preferred)
•MA Teacher Certification
•Two years of experience teaching
•Experience with computer-based programs and Internet resources
•Basic digital literacy


Physical Demands, Work Environment Requirements:
Job requires some computer use. General office and classroom environment with air conditioning and fluorescent lighting.

Terms of Employment:
•Part-time: Mornings (Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon) or Part time: Evenings (Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.)
•9.0 teaching hours and 2 preparation hours per week
•Monthly staff meetings at times to be determined
•Salary is in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
