Anticipated

Elementary Math Interventionist

DISTICT WIDE

 

Job Goal:   To provide research-based math intervention support to elementary students across the district during their scheduled x-block time.  This position is designed to help students who struggle in math strengthen critical math skills that will help them succeed in future years.

 

Qualifications: 

  1. Excellent communication skills.
  2. Previous math classroom teaching experience implementing a conceptual-based math curriculum and/or intervention experience implementing a research-based intervention program
  3. Proven ability to follow a curriculum with fidelity and develop conceptually based lessons to target the particular needs of a group
  4. Proven ability to use formative assessment data on a daily basis to inform instruction and lesson-design
  5. Strong people skills: An ability to quickly build strong relationships with students and teachers
  6. Strong organization skills especially in collecting/compiling student data and planning
  7. Understanding of scientifically based research and evidence-based practices for teaching the range of mathematics skills and grade levels; a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn and stay current.
  8. Must be a licensed teacher in Mathematics by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
  9. Must have a valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, and ability to drive daily between assigned schools

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Work with small groups of students providing research-based math intervention in 8-10 week cycles to target specific skills identified by assessment data
  2. Create a positive atmosphere of trust and collaboration among students in the intervention groups that will accelerate the growth of Mathematics conceptual understanding and skills for students;
  3. Collect formative data on a daily, weekly and quarterly basis to assess student progress and needs, adjusting intervention efforts accordingly
  4. Participate in ongoing training with Elementary Curriculum Coordinator and Math Coaches in implementing research-based intervention curricula
  5. Meet regularly with Elementary Curriculum Coordinator and Math Coaches to review progress monitoring data on students, make adjustments to instruction, and select students for upcoming cycles

 

Terms of Employment:

 

189-day work year

School Year Schedule: 184 days (September – June)

Additional Work Days: Up to 5 summer days paid at a per diem rate; Schedule to be determined collaboratively with the coordinator each year.
