Susan Fitzpatrick, Co-Founder

The hiring season is upon us and I'm sure you are all very busy.  Here are some tips to make your job easier and more efficient.

Question: How can I process a large volume of applicants?

Answer
1. Shorten the application deadline.  If you find you have enough applicants..close the job.  You can always re-open it.

2. Use the filters: you can filter by degree, residence, certifications, and test scores.  More filters are in development.

Question: How can I set up an evaluation committee so members can view and evaluate the applicants?

Answer:
1. Make sure all evaluation members have SchoolSpring "USER" accounts. If not, then go to "System Management", then "User Accounts" and create accounts for them.  Assigning them the user type "Guest" will give them access to only the job and applicants you assign to the round.

2.  Go the the "Job Applicant" page and select the applicants you want to evaluate.

3.  Select action in the drop down menu at the bottom of the page and change to "Assign to Evaluation Round".

4. Select "New Round" and create a name for the round.  If you would like to assign a user to be the Team Leader, select one in the in the drop down list.  This gives this user full access to all applicants in this round regardless of their user type.

5. Choose the applicants, team members and the criteria you would like them to evaluate.

6. You can assign weighing to each of the criteria you selected, or leave them equal.  This allows you to place more emphasis on certain components of the application.

(evaluators  cannot see each others evaluations)

Question:  The phone never stops ringing....how do I set up interviews without all the phone tag?

Answer:
1. Make sure the applicants status is set to "interview."

2. Click "interview'" in the left hand column under job components.

3. Create a round, select the place and time of interviews.

4.Click "notify applicants" and "team members" of schedule.

Applicants will see the times listed, select the one they want, it will disappear from the schedule etc .

The fastest time for interviews scheduled goes to Bristol-Warren in RI.  They were able to schedule all their interviews within hours of emailing the interview component to candidates!

Building Our Candidate Pool =Attendance at Job Fairs
by Cindi Baker-Flow, National Sales Director

SchoolSpring is committed to providing employers with the highest quality national candidate pool. We often hear the need for math and science applicants, special education candidates and bilingual/multilingual applicants.  In order to spread the word to viable candidates who are actively seeking positions, we have found that by personally attending job fairs we can greatly increase these numbers.

There are numerous job fairs around the country that we can attend.  As we tune in to your needs, we make decisions as to where to place our personnel resources to insure that we are in the appropriate place to attract candidates in key credential areas who are willing to consider re-locating for the right job.  This year, we have had representation at job fairs in a number of states:   Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Rhode Island, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, Connecticut, Massachusetts.......to name a few.

Although hiring from local institutions is often preferred,we are finding that more employers are interested in increasing the diversity of their teaching staff.  Conversely, some candidates, such as Spanish bilingual, are often unaware of the potential to look outside the southwest for instance for great employment and personal growth experiences.  As we attend these events, we try to encourage candidates to use our free site to help them explore all the possibilities.....one of which could be a job in your district!

As employers become more familiar with SchoolSpring's features, we can assist you to be more pro-active in setting up interviews at job fairs.  We foster relationships with colleges and universities around the country to encourage their students to become members of SchoolSpring early in their job search.  These people will then be in our candidate pool for you to search to locate students at a job fair institution and use our automatic interview scheduler to fill up your schedule at a fair.   In these days of dwindling travel resources, we can also assist you to develop your own online job fair by inviting applicants from afar for a Skype interview. Using 21st century technology, we can assist you to find and hire the best educators for your 21st century schools.
