Job Description
Lothrop Elementary School is accepting applications for a long term sub for a full-time K-6 Paraeducator (7/hrs/day) beginning in August 2017.

The Paraeducator is responsible for helping to provide academic, behavioral and social and emotional support to students as needed. This is to be accomplished in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies and procedures. The Paraeducator will be responsible for supporting students within the classroom or community setting. They must ensure the development and safety of students and be respectful of the students and their parents.

The following qualifications are required:
• Associate's degree or equivalent
• Meets requirements of No Child Left Behind “highly qualified” status

The following are preferred:
• Previous teaching or related experience
• Understands accommodations and classroom expectations while providing student support
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in accordance with federal, state and RNESU requirements
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with students, parents, staff and members of the community
• Ability to work harmoniously and collaboratively with others
• Knowledge and experience with basic principles of child development, effective methods of dealing with children, and curriculum and instruction

Community/History:
Lothrop School is a PK-6 school of over 240 students located in the Sunshine Village of Pittsford, Vermont. Lothrop is minutes from both the city of Rutland and Killington ski area. Parent and community volunteers play an active, vital role in the school. The school places high priority on both a positive culture and innovation. Lothrop School is a PBiS School with a comprehensive system for identifying students needs and creating intervention and enrichment opportunities to support students. Weekly, all students participate in exploratory groups for enrichment activities.

Demographics:
PK-6 we have over 240 students. About 25% of our students are students with IEP’s. Our free and reduced population is currently close to 50%.

School Specific Initiative:
Lothrop Elementary is a PBiS and Responsive Classroom school. We have an MTSSB system that includes Teacher Talk Teams made up of grade level cluster teachers, special educators, interventionists, and the principal and a Student Support Team which is made up of teachers, school counselor, and principal. Our curriculum is based on the CCSS and RNESU Compact. We use a literacy block model for integrated ELA and Bridges program for mathematics to address these expectations.
