Haverhill has a student population of over 6900 which is projected for moderate growth over the next several years. The city’s students are housed at a high school for grades 9-12, one combined primary and secondary school grades K-8, two middle schools for grades 5-8 and one middle school grades 6-8, eight elementary schools, an Early Childhood Center (Pre-School), and an Alternative school.
The Burnham Parent Resource and Registration Center was established to make a smooth transition for parents and students into the Haverhill Public Schools. This school building was converted into offices in 2008 and it houses the Registration Center for Grades K-12, Special Education, Transportation and our English Language Learner Departments.
The Haverhill Public Schools has over 2000 volunteers and an extensive business-education partnership program that promotes community involvement and pride in the schools. The school system currently employs over 1600 professional and support staff and has an operating budget of $54 million. It also receives an additional $8 million in Federal and State Grants and other revenues.
Haverhill High School is in the final stages of a $33 million dollar renovation project. The High School offers thirteen advanced placement courses, six foreign languages programs, a Classical Academy and Virtual High School. The district offers 59 interscholastic sports programs at the elementary schools, middle schools and high school levels.
