Welcome to Edith C. Baker Elementary School!

Baker School

The Edith C. Baker School serves the South Brookline neighborhood and is the second largest elementary school in the town, with a population of 660 students. The system-wide programs offered at Baker are the Korean English Language Learner program and the Cognitively Impaired Special Education program (Grades 1-8). Baker School was fully renovated in 2000 and two new wings were added, creating a new library and cafeteria as well as more classroom space.

Baker School is an “international” school, where fully one-third of the student population speaks English as a second language at home. A vibrant PTO sponsors a Parent Outreach Committee to support new parents and organizes numerous educational and social events throughout the year to nurture and maintain a sense of school community. Baker School utilizes the resources of the K-8 structure and encourages cross-grade level partnerships. This strengthens collegial relations among the faculty and creates ties between students at various grade levels. A serious effort is made to differentiate the middle school experience of grades 7 and 8 from the rest of the school. These efforts include a teacher advisor program for all students, a community service program that includes an ongoing relationship with the Long Island Homeless Shelter and a culminating eighth grade graduation trip to Washington, DC.
