Job Description
Primary Duties and Responsibilities of Position
Facilitate in the development and implementation of professional development programs for teachers, area instruction coaches and administrators to ensure that CPS is in compliance with state and federal mandates of the bilingual education programs. In addition, provide technical support and training to schools implementing a State-mandated Transitional Bilingual Education Program in the implementation of the Illinois English Language Proficiency Standards.

Principal Accountabilities
• Develop and assist in the development of professional development activities in the areas of second language acquisition, native language instruction, English as a second language, best practices in ESL and literacy development;
• Facilitate professional development for new bilingual lead teachers in implementing the bilingual program at the local school level, including sheltered instruction strategies and administration of screener and proficiency assessment;
• Function as an intra-unit liaison with CPS offices and departments to ensure ELL inclusion;
• Assist in the administration of the English language proficiency assessments: W-APT and ACCESS for ELLs
• Assist in the search and development of partnerships with universities and other experts to develop sequenced coursework and/or professional development activities for dual language, native language instruction and ESL; and
• Assist Instruction Manager in the implementation of special projects, as assigned by Chief Officer.

Job Requirements
Type of Education Required:
Standard Type 03 or 09 Illinois Teaching Certificate
Bilingual and/or ESL Endorsement/Approval

Type of Experience and Number of Years:
Minimum of 5 years experience as Bilingual Teacher or Lead Teacher
Professional development creator/facilitator
Strong background in L1 and L2 literacy development
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Masters degree preferred
  • Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
