Daily Cafe – A great Resource

I am always happy when I open my inbox and find an email from info@thedailycafe.com. Sisters Gail Boushey and Joan Moser, authors of The Daily Five, http://www.thedailycafe.com/ send a free weekly newsletter with valuable tips and thought-provoking articles. Pay for Performance? Another Perspective….

Author Daniel Pink (A Whole New Mind; Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future) debunked the myth! Speaking to a room full of International School Headmasters at the annual Association for the Advancement of International Education conference in Boston, Pink cited scientific studies and common sense to offer a compelling perspective on the role of pay in regards to motivation.  Pink’s research was geared to the business world, but his message resonated with the room full of educators.  Bottom line: pay is not the acclaimed motivator we are led to believe. In his new book, Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, Pink acknowledges that tangible rewards do result in improved performance for rudimentary, mechanistic tasks.  However, in the complex world of most businesses, and certainly, the world in which teachers live … Read entire article »
