Are you feeling frustrated by the focus on testing?
Susan Engle’s recent Op Ed piece in the New York Times made me nod in agreement. Those of us who spend our days with elementary school children know that we are doing so much more than “preparing them for high school.” She writes that the focus on testing and the drive to raise scores hurts children by ignoring what we know about how children learn.
We educators need to adjust the curriculum so that it is developmentally appropriate. This rings true for me and I shudder to think about the “focus on the test” mentality that I hear so much about.
What are your thoughts about the need to revamp our curriculum? I would love your feedback on personal experiences, thoughts about this topic or any others!

I find it interesting that states are so focused on testing even at the younger grades while some colleges are starting to take the opposit view. A few hours of testing does not really tell what kind of student someone is. So much of state mandated testing bothers me I don’t even know where to begin.
